Outlook 2007 "auto search" feature broken after downgrading from 2013

Hi,

We have a client who's business recently upgraded from Office 2007 to 2013. The director of the company specifically disliked Outlook 2013 and requested that his machine be reverted to 2007. Since reverting, the "show results as I type" function no longer works. There's no error message. It's turned on but nothing happens. This is an Exchange mailbox.

What I've tried so far...

Checked that email caching was on for auto search to work - OK.
Checked search options.
- Set to automatically search whilst typing.
- Indexing on but no PST file listed.
Checked PST File settings - all OK.
Ran repair of Office 2007 and rebooted PC - no change.
Recreated profile - no change.
Ran PST and OST scans to repair files - no change.
Checked for Windows updates - 17 important updated installed including one for Office 2007 - no change.

Are you able to please assist? I imagine there's probably a registry entry involved that needs to be changed but I wouldn't dare mess around without knowing for sure.

The computer is running Windows 7 32-bit.

Regards,

Lee.

Hi Lee,

Firstly, please confirm whether your instant Search ia enabled:

To turn on Instant Search, click the message Click here to enable Instant Search in the Instant Search pane. If you don't see this message, you already have Instant Search turned on.

For more information, please refer to following article:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/turn-instant-search-on-or-off-HA010237833.aspx?CTT=5&origin=HA010198085

If it is enabled, the issue persists, the indexing of your data files might not be complete. Indexing is what enables the Instant Search feature to quick locate items or you are searching for messages that are clear-signed and you are searching in either a Personal Folders file or Offline Folder file for these items.

The detailed solution information, please read following article:

Hi Karen,

First of all, thank you for your reply.

Instant search is enabled. However, it's this part that concerns me...

"2. Under Indexing, verify that the data files that you want to include in your search are selected in the Index messages in these data files list."

As I mentioned in my first post, not data files are listed at all in the indexing options of Outlook. When I go into the WINDOWS indexing options (through control panel), Microsoft Outlook is checked but is showing the Outlook 2013 logo and not the Outlook 2007 logo which makes me wonder if it's still trying to index Outlook 2013 emails.

I have searched vigorously for an answer to the missing PST files but unfortunately have not found a solution. Is this due to being an Exchange account? Should the OST file be listed there, or only PST files? And if something should be listed there, do you know why it isn't / how to fix it? Keeping in mind the above fixes I have already tried (from my original post).

I'll mention again that the instant search feature did work before installing and removing Office 2013.

Also, I just noticed on my Outlook that when I go into the indexing options from Outlook, it opens a box like the Windows indexing options. It's the same version (2010) as my client, but we get different boxes appear when entering indexing options. Ie. Mine does not state "select PST files to index" like my client's does. My instant search is also not working.

Thanks again,

Lee.

Hi,

It might because that Microsoft Office 2013 didn't be uninstalled completely. you could use the "Fix it" tool to uninstall it:

Hi Lee,

Did you actually get an answer for this?
